How To Be An Ally

 What is an “ally”?

An ally is a person who speaks out, acts and offers support for a person or group that is targeted, stereotyped and discriminated against. They stand up for what is right and help others when needed. You can be an ally by:

  • Listening to others with your full, undivided attention.
  • Be knowledgeable of the world around you.
  • Recognize barriers and struggles within your personal life and your community and think of how to make them better.
  • If you see discrimination, racism, oppression or sexism, speak out against it.
  • Don’t participate in crude comments or jokes about others.
  • Follow your own advices, morals and values.
  • Be true to yourself and your beliefs.
  • Educate others on your knowledge of existing issues.
  • Be open-minded and friendly towards others.
  • Be the change you want to see in the world.
