Passion and Dedication: Ashley Mitchell

Ashley Mitchell joined SAVIS in 2010 and has given many valuable and dedicated hours of volunteerism. As a support/crisis line volunteer, Ashley is one of the voices of SAVIS that provides 24 hour support to survivors of violence.

Ashley said the following of her work at SAVIS:Ashley and Holly

“I became involved with the Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services of Halton (SAVIS) in 2010 after searching for a path to help me give back to the community and gain a better understanding of the Social Service sector. SAVIS was the organization which hit home for me – they provided volunteer front line experience, where I could gain training that would allow me to make a difference in the lives of those fighting sexual assault and violence. As a member of the general public with experiences in my community, at school and through hobbies, I have experienced and witnessed oppression and discrimination against vulnerable populations such as women.”

“Volunteering at SAVIS means a great deal to me – helping those in a crisis has become a passion of mine. When an individual calls the crisis line, they are reaching out for help and information. The awareness that I can be the person on the other end of the line means that I can contribute as a support system. Crisis line workers help individuals so that they do not feel alone as they go through a crisis or seek information. SAVIS has not only been a beacon of experiences,  knowledge and a great network of friends but it has helped me decide my path in life – I hope to become a Social Worker so that I may become a positive source in the Social Service sector, much like the many inspirational workers at SAVIS.”

Thank you Ashley. Your passion, dedication and skill is reflected in the volunteer work that you do at SAVIS. We are privileged to have you as a SAVIS volunteer and look forward to continuing that relationship.
